A dozen people have been removed from camps they had set up near the railroad tracks south of Interstate 10 between Bob Hope Drive and Washington Street between Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert.

On Wednesday, April 24th 2024, Riverside County Sheriffs deputies along with police from Union Pacific Railroad, Cal Fire, and the County’s Homeless Outreach Team walked that distance rounding up 12 people who set up camp very close to the railroad tracks.

Police had posted notices in the area on Monday April 22nd, giving the campers a 2-day notice to get out of there.

Of the 12 people there, 5 were arrested on various charges and jailed in Indio.

Twenty encampments and piles of trash and junk were removed.
