Two Killed, 9 Hurt in 35 Vehicle Crash Near Bakersfield CA

A huge crash involving 35 vehicles in Southern California has killed 2 people, and injured 9 others.

 

It happened just after 7:30  Saturday morning January 6th 2024 on a foggy stretch of Interstate 5 near Bakersfield. 

 

The pileup covered half a mile, and included 17 passenger vehicles and 18 big rigs.

 

Kern County Fire Department faced challenges with compressed natural gas leaks from some trucks. 

 

The crash prompted the closure of southbound lanes on I-5 near Bakersfield fore more than 24 hours, into Sunday morning January 7th 2024.

 

The California Department of Transportation has still not determined a cause.
