Shootout Goal Lifts Firebirds To Home Win

With 89-hundreds fans in their seats, the Coachella Valley Firebirds got a goal from John Morrison in the 5th round of the shootout to beat Calgary 4 to 3, and maintain a slim hold on 1st place in the AHL Pacific Division.

Chris Driedger stopped all 5 shots in overtime and the shootout, to record the win for the Firebirds.

Same two teams play Thurs Feb 1st 2024 at 7 p-m at Acrisure Arena.

The Firebirds also have a home game Saturday Feb 3rd at 6 p-m against 2nd place Tucson.

After 11 years as a professional hockey player, now-retired Firebirds defenseman Matt Tennyson will join the television broadcasting team for Firebirds telecasts.

He’ll report from between the team benches, joining Evan Pivnick, Grant Fuhr and Gino Lamont.

Matt will work the following games.

Sunday, February 18th vs. Henderson – 4:30pm on CW5

Saturday, March 23rd s. Texas – 5:30pm on CW5

Thursday, April 4th vs. San Jose – 6:30pm on FOX11

Sunday, April 14th vs. San Diego – 2:30pm on FOX11

Matt is also on the Firebirds Community Relations Team, and will be making numerous public appearances as he expands Street Hockey Programs in the desert.
