Ongoing Problems For Haiti
As the violence escalates in Haiti and the country is overrun by gangs, U-S Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick of Florida, is calling for Haiti Prime Minister Ariel Henry (center in photo) to step down, and hand over power to a transitional government.
The Cherfilus-McCormick is the Co-Chair of the Haiti Caucus on Capitol Hill, and says in 2023, there were nearly five-thousand murders in Haiti.
Comparatively, 18,456 people were murdered in the United States in 2023.
Of course, the U-S population is about 330 million people. Haiti has 11 and a half million people. 95% of Haiti’s population is black.
The U.S. Embassy in Haiti is evacuating its non-essential staffers.
U-S Secretary of State Antony Blinken is also talking with Caribbean leaders about a transition of power while attending a Caribbean Community meeting in Jamaica.
