Desert Hot Springs Man Killed By DUI Driver; Suspect Ran A Red Light

A 59 year old Desert Hot Springs man has been killed in a crash caused by a drunk driver.

Last week a DUI checkpoint in Palm Springs resulted in the arrest of just one drunk driver.

Also last week a DUI checkpoint in Desert Hot Springs resulted in the arrest of just one drunk driver.

But a Wednesday night  December 20th 2023, 17 minutes before midnight, another drunk driver, 38 year old Tyson Rodriguez, of Humboldt County California,  was driving his Kia Sorrento northbound on Palm Drive in DHS and decided to run the red light at Hacienda Avenue.

It was a fatal decision, but not for Rodriguez. 

The 59 year old man from Desert Hot Springs was driving his Ford Focus eastbound on Hacienda, and was broadsided  by Rodriguez’ car and died at a local hospital.

Rodriguez is facing gross vehicular manslaughter charges.
