A One-Dollar Coin In California? Voters Prefer Designs Focused On Homeless Problem

California is getting its own one-dollar coin in 2026.

Governor Gavin Newsom has been asking voters  what the coin should look like.

Newsom continues to oversee a huge  increase in homelessness statewide,  that has occurred during his tenure as Governor, despite the fact he is spending 24 billion dollars to end homelessness or at least mitigate the problem.

Among the most popular design ideas for a one-dollar coin are coins depicting tent cities and homeless encampment fires.

No word yet on which one Newsom prefers.
