It was half an hour after midnight on the morning of Halloween 2020, when deputies were called to Highway 111 just west of Peterson Road in Rancho Mirage.

Someone had set off explosives in a concrete trash receptacle, sending junk across all eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 111.

The Sheriff’s Department Hazardous Device Team responded, and the FBI, and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms joined the investigation.

Now, 49 year old Jason Hershey of Bermuda Dunes (photo above),  and 58 year old Michael Hardisty of Cathedral City are under arrest.

On Wednesday May 19th, deputies arrested Hershey near Washington Street and Country Club Drive in Bermuda Dunes, and nabbed Hardisty near East Palm Canyon Drive and Palm Hills, which is just east of Gene Autry Trail in Palm Springs

Both are charged with exploding a destructive device with the intent to cause property damage and also felony vandalism.
