Smoke Advisory Covers Southern California; Extended Due To Several Wildfires
The Coachella Valley, Banning Pass, area mountains from Idyllwild to Big Bear, the Inland Empire, and the beaches of Orange County, are all under an Air Quality Alert and Wildfire Smoke Advisory through 11:59 p-m Weds Sept 11th 2024. That is due to several wildfires burning around Southern California.
There are ELEVATED LEVELS OF FINE PARTICLE POLLUTION LEVELS DUE TO WILDFIRE SMOKE and ASH.

As of 4 a-m Weds Sept 11th 2024, the fire has burned 34-thousand acres and is 14% contained. For more information about the Line Fire, visit the CalFire incident page at https://www.fire.ca.gov/

Conditions may change quickly due to fire activity and weather. Download the South Coast AQMD app or visit www.aqmd.gov/AQImap to view current air quality in your neighborhood.
Forecasted Smoke and Air Quality Impacts
- Smoke from the Line, Bridge, and Airport fires is expected to cause PM2.5 levels to reach at least the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups AQI category at times on Tuesday Sept 10th 2024 in San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles, and Orange Counties with many areas reaching the Very Unhealthy or Hazardous AQI categories.
- The highest smoke impacts are expected close to the fires and in the Inland Empire.
- Smoke impacts in the South Coast Air Basin will likely continue until fire activity decreases. South Coast Air Quality Management District will continue to provide daily smoke advisory updates until air quality impacts from smoke subside.
If you are in an area impacted by smoke:
- Limit your exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed or seeking alternate shelter.
- Avoid vigorous physical activity.
- Run your air conditioning and/or an air purifier. If possible, do not use swamp coolers or whole house fans that bring in outside air.
- Avoid burning wood in your fireplace or firepit and minimize sources of indoor air pollution such as candles, incense, pan-frying, and grilling.
- If you must be outside, a properly fit N95 or P100 respirator may provide some protection.
Exposure to particle pollution can cause serious health problems, aggravate lung disease, cause asthma attacks and acute bronchitis, and increase risk of respiratory infections. People with heart or
lung diseases should follow their doctor`s advice for dealing with episodes of unhealthy air quality. Additionally, people with respiratory or heart disease, older adults, and children are particularly susceptible and should avoid prolonged exposure, strenuous activities or heavy exertion as conditions dictate.
