The Pentagon is blaming a “Taliban failure” for the deadly bombing outside the airport in Kabul Afghanistan on Thursday August 26th 2021.
Thirteen U-S troops were killed and 18 others wounded in the ISIS-K attack.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby says ISIS got past Taliban checkpoints and says the U.S. is investigating a possible security breakdown with the terrorist group.
The U.S. is relying on the Taliban to provide security outside the Kabul airport until the evacuation is complete.
Army Major General Hank Taylor says U-S officials now believe there was just one bombing. He added he’s not sure how the report of a second explosion at a hotel near the Kabul airport emerged.
Meantime, Taylor expressed his condolences to the families of those who died in the attacks. He noted those who were wounded were taken to Germany for treatment.
