Dr Sandra Lyon (photo above) was hired as School Superintendent of the Palm Springs Unified School District in July 2016.
And just before she celebrates her 5 year anniversary on the job, in July of 2021, Dr Lyon is retiring.
She’ll leave her post on June 30th 2021.
The School Board will be gathering input from staff, parents and the community, as it moves forward for find Dr Lyon’s replacement.
Dr Lyon says “You just know when it’s time,” and says being the Superintendent in Palm Springs Unified has been the highlight of her career.
“We are in a good place and will continue to navigate the pandemic, learn and grow and be ready to meet the rest of this school year, taking the best of the new learning from this year with us as we transition to more in-person instruction as soon as it is safe to do so.”
College of the Desert Superintendent and President Joel Kinnamon will also retire in 2021.
Kinnamon joined the college in 2012 and has worked within multiple community college systems for more than 30 years.
In announcing his departure, Kinnamon cited his desire to focus on family concerns related to his parents.
He is set to depart on March 31st 2021
