Plea Bargain Results In Short Prison Sentence In Palm Desert Smash & Grab Robbery

It’s a very short prison sentence, just 3 years,  for 25 year old Demetrius Thornton, one of 4 people involved in a smash and grab robbery at the 111 Jewelry & Watch Repair store on Highway 111 just east of Monterey Avenue in Palm Desert.

The robbery took place in June 2022.

Thornton pleaded guilty to get a lighter sentence, while the District Attorney’s Office dropped other charges against him.

Two other men also pleaded guilty and are serving time in prison.

They are 27 year old Rayjon Thorton, and 28 year old Joshua King.

24 year old Karina Monique Ortega was involved in the robbery, in which the suspects also attacked the owner and the employees inside the store.

Ortega is on probation after getting just 60 days in jail.

All the suspects are from outside the Coachella Valley.
