A nearly eight-hour standoff between a shooter and Philadelphia police has come to an end.

But not before a lawyer for the shooter intervened and police fired off plenty of tear gas to try to defuse the situation.

Maurice Hill surrendered around midnight Eastern Time, after holding off police for hours with a constant threat of gunfire.

Hill is accused of wounding six police officers during a drug bust in north Philadelphia Wednesday afternoon August 14th.

They were serving a search warrant, when Hill opened fire.

The officers are expected to survive.

Negotiators tried to communicate with Hill, but he wasn’t responding.

Then Hill’s attorney joined a phone call and reassured the suspect that he wouldn’t be harmed if he surrendered.
