Pedophile Staying Locked Up; Sought Parole Under Lenient CA Program Rules
The California Parole Board has denied parole for convicted pedophile Charles Mix.
Mix is 69 now.
He was 48 back in June 2003 and was a roommate with a man he had known for years, sharing a home on Chestnut Street in Riverside. Mix kidnapped his roommate’s 5-year-old daughter on June 1st 2003, leaving a note behind, and drove her to Richfield Utah.
At the time, Mix was 6 feet 4, 350 pounds. The girl’s distraught father called police who tracked down Mix in Utah.
In 2004, Mix was convicted on 3 dozen felony charges and sentenced to 350 years in prison.
He has served about 20 years of that sentence.
But he applied for parole under California’s lenient Elderly Parole Program.
Charles Mix will have another chance at parole in seven years.
Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin, says “The decision to deny early release for Charles Mix reflects the seriousness of the crime and the continued risk he poses to public safety and his victims.” “Our responsibility is to ensure justice is served, while recognizing the emotional strain these hearings place on victims, their families, and the community. It’s crucial that those who commit serious offenses are held fully accountable for their actions.”
The victim, who is now 27 years old, says she is too traumatized to speak publicly, and asked her sister to speak on her behalf.
“Some people aren’t able to be rehabilitated,” said the victim’s sister, Claira Stansbury. “He is a pedophile, and instead of worrying so much about the man who made his choice, they need to be focused on the victim and their families.”
Charles Mix will have another chance at parole in seven years.
