Palm Springs Animal Shelter Retains “NO KILL” Status
Best Friends Animal Society, a leading national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters, reports that only 62% of the animal shelters in the country were classified as ‘No Kill’ in 2023.
Palm Springs Animal Shelter was one of them.
The shelter has received a plaque for its achievement.
However, being designated a ‘No Kill’ shelter, does not mean no animals were killed at the shelter.
Animal Shelters are given the ‘No-Kill’ designation if they have a 90 percent save rate, which is the nationally recognized benchmark to be considered a “No-Kill,” shelter.
That factors in that approximately 10 percent of animals who enter shelters have medical or behavioral circumstances that warrant humane euthanasia.
