There are some cold days and nights in store for people in New York City.

And they are just 5 years away.

Outgoing New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has signed legislation  banning  the use of natural gas and oil at newly-constructed apartment buildings in the city.

By 2027 all new city buildings must be fully-electric, and cannot use any fossil fuels.

Mayor de Blasio says the electricity  would have to come from renewable energy sources.

Gone would be gas stoves, hot water heaters, and other appliances that use natural gas.
