Last month the Riverside County Fairgrounds were jumping.
The Annual County Fair and National Date Festival featured food, entertainment, and carnival rides.
As March winds to a close, it is now being set up to house a federal medical station, a modern day MASH unit, literally a portable hospital.
The California National Guard will cobble this medical station together with supplies and equipment sent by the U-S Department of Health and Human Services.
It will be set up in two of the existing buildings at the Fairgrounds.
When it is ready, the federal medical station will offer 125 hospital beds, to ease the burden on existing local hospitals if the expected surge in Covid-19 cases actually occurs.
The FMS includes all the equipment to run a basic hospital, including portable sinks, medication, and 740 complete units of personal protective equipment including N95 masks, surgical masks, gloves, gowns and face shields.
These materials will be set up in two existing buildings to create two stations that will care for patients with mild to moderate symptoms.
Another identical 125 bed facility will also be built in Western Riverside County.
The facilities will be staffed by Riverside County healthcare workers.
