McDonald’s will be without drive-thru workers at ten locations across Chicago.
And those people may not get their jobs back.
McDonald’s is rolling out new technology, and drive-thru orders will be taken by a computer using artificial intelligence.

McDonald’s is also working on automating more of the kitchen equipment, likes deep fat fryers and grills.
But that is still about 5 years away.
