Inmate Runs…Deputies Run Faster!

On Monday August 19th 2024, at 10:15 a.m., an armed Correctional Deputy arrived at a parking lot at Cactus Avenue and Nason Street in Moreno Valley.

He was transporting a 25 year old female inmate, Kimberly Gallegos, of Jurupa Valley.

When the Correctional Deputy attempted to help Gallegos get out of the vehicle,  Gallegos decided to run.  The Correctional Deputy chased Gallegos through the parking lot, and the deputy had his weapon drawn. During the foot chase, the deputy fired a round into the ground.

Backup help arrived and several deputies were able to recapture Gallegos. No injuries resulted from the discharge of the firearm.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Corrections Central Investigations Unit will lead the investigation into the escape, and additional charges will be filed with the District Attorney’s Office. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Force Investigations Detail assumed the investigation into the discharge of the firearm. The involved correctional deputy was placed on paid administrative leave according to Department policy. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
