Imperial Irrigation District crews, with assistance from additional support crews and mutual aid partners, continue working around-the-clock to repair the over 125 transmission and distribution power poles and lines near Calipatria that were toppled by last Tuesday night’s (August 21st 2021) powerful and destructive storm.
“I am pleased to report we have restored the transmission lines that serve four of CalEnergy’s geothermal power plants and we will continue working tirelessly to ensure all remaining lines are energized as quickly as possible,” said IID Energy Manager Marilyn Del Bosque Gilbert. “I want to thank our entire personnel, contract crews and mutual aid partners that are on-site assisting with the continued infrastructure repair efforts.”
The geothermal power plants help maintain system reliability and deliver power to IID, the Southern California Public Power Authority and the California Independent System Operator.
Although residential customers experienced only a short interruption in their service, approximately 23 commercial customers remain without service. They include the majority of CalEnergy’s geothermal power plants near the Salton Sea as well as some telecommunications providers and farming companies.
