IE School District Sues CA Over Student Transgender Notification Ban
The ink is barely dry on California’s new law which bans school officials from notifying parents if a student decides to identify as a transgender individual, and already there is a lawsuit.
Governor Gavin Newsom signed the new law on Monday July 15th, and now the Chino Valley School District in the Inland Empire has sued the State of California. The District argues parents have a right to know what is going on with their children.
Chino Valley School District is one of seven school districts in California that require teachers to report to parents if a student chooses to identify as transgender. It is the first school district to file a lawsuit over the issue, and may not be the last.
