Home Care Job Fair Is Virtual

Compassionate, committed people who are interested in helping older and disabled adults with in-home care can apply for paid positions at an online job fair Tuesday Dec. 7th 2021.

Riverside County continues to recruit thousands of workers for its In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Public Authority Registry, which matches clients with trusted in-home caregivers. The Dec. 7 online fair, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., allows jobseekers to chat live with recruiters and receive help to self-register in the program — a change designed to speed-up the enrollment process.

IHSS is a state program Riverside County administers to assist eligible Medi-Cal recipients who are older, blind and/or have disabilities. It’s especially vital as the county’s aging population grows. One in every five of the county’s 2.5 million residents is age 60 or older – a population projected to swell by 250% in coming decades.

About 34,000 caregivers countywide provide direct support services to over 40,000 older adults and disabled individuals through IHSS.   “We’re looking for people with a heart for serving others – those who want to make a difference and help elderly and disabled individuals live safely at home with dignity,” said Eva Krottmayer, executive director of IHSS Public Authority, which maintains the Registry. Krottmayer adds that the need for in-home workers remains high in communities such as the Coachella Valley, Anza, Blythe, Hemet and Idyllwild. IHSS workers have flexible schedules, receive benefits (such as paid sick leave), and the rate of pay will increase to $15.50 an hour starting Jan. 1, 2022. Applicants must pass a background check, drug screening and be able to perform caregiving responsibilities ranging from laundry and meal preparation to more personal tasks such as feeding and bathing. Prospective caregivers do not need experience, will have access to training, and must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 to be referred to clients. If requested, eligible caregivers will receive essential protective gear to protect against the spread of coronavirus.
