Young American tennis star Coco Gauff is pulling out of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for COVID-19.

The 17-year-old Gauff is already on the Women’s Tennis Association professional tour, but says she is disappointed to share the news and wished “TEAM USA the best of luck” in the Tokyo Games.

A member of the U-S Women’s Gymnastics Team has also tested positive for Covid-19, as have several other athletes from around the world.

In Japan, only 20% of the population has been vaccinated against Covid-19, even though the population there is about one-third the population of the United States.

Spectators have already been banned at the Tokyo Olympics.  The athletes will be competing at empty stadiums.
