The Bobcat Fire has grown to 44,393 acres, and is still just 3% contained, and is threatening Mt Wilson Observatory, and broadcast transmission towers located there. All personnel at the Observatory have been evacuated. 1,158 firefighters are on the scene.
Fire behavior remains very active, with active backing and flanking, uphill runs, torching and crowning, and spotting observed. Spotting continues to present challenges with multiple spots established over State Route 2. With Probability of Ignition (PIG) in 90-100% range, spot fires will establish quickly and grow rapidly. Fire is being influenced mostly by slope and fuel, so spread is likely in all directions. Short duration crown runs are expected wherever fuels, wind and topography align.
