Facelift For Long Canyon Road In Desert Edge

Repairs are underway on Long Canyon Road, through the community of Desert Edge near the City of Desert Hot Springs city limits.

The Riverside County transportation project will repave a 1.5-mile segment of Long Canyon Road between Dillon Road and Hacienda Avenue in Desert Edge.

The road is one of the routes used by motorists heading to the east side of the City of Desert Hot Springs.

Matich Corporation of San Bernardino is doing the work, which will take about 2 months to complete.

Additional improvements include construction of a concrete dip section where a  stream crosses the road, placement of safety edge and shoulder backing,  and reconstruction of driveways.

The total budget for the project is $2.6 million, and is funded with the county’s gas tax and SB 1 transportation funds.

The work will be done in phases, to keep the road open as much as possible during construction.

A full closure of Long Canyon Road will be needed for one weekend (late Friday afternoon to early Monday morning) to complete the construction of the concrete dip section. When that closure occurs, through traffic and residential access will be provided by way of  an alternate detour route.
