Djokovic Walks Into Wimbledon Semi’s As Opponent Pulls Out Of Quarterfinal Match

For an aging superstar with a bum knee, nothing can be more beneficial than a day off.

And Novak Djokovic has one today and tomorrow at Wimbledon.

The 37 year old Djokovic, seeded 2nd at Wimbledon, is coming off knee surgery that caused him to pull out of last month’s French Open.

He was supposed to face 9th seed 25 year old Alex de Minaur in the Quarterfinals Wednesday July 10th 2024.

But de Minaur withdrew because of a hip injury.

So  Djokovic gets a free ticket into the semifinals where he will take on Lorenzo Musetti,  who dropped the first set against American Taylor Fritz, then won 3 of the next 4 sets to defeat Fritz in quarterfinal action.

The other Men’s Semi pits #3 Carlos Alcaraz against #5 Daniil Medvedev.

Elena Rybakina of Russia seeded 4th, defeated  Elina Svitolina of Ukraine who was seeded 21st.  Rybakina, the Wimbledon Champion in 2022, now faces Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic who knocked off Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia  in a Women’s Quarterfinal match.

The other Women’s Semifinal will be Donna  Vekic of Croatia against Jasmine Paolini of Italy.  Paolini lost in the Finals of the French Open in June 2024.

Desirae Krawczyk has made it to the Women’s Doubles Semifinals going 3 sets to win in the Quarterfinals. The team of Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula was ousted in the Quarterfinals

Krawczyk is also playing in a 2nd round match in  mixed doubles, with her teammate Neil Skupski.
