Despite Major Problems In California; Governor Focuses On Tents

Assembly Bill 267 is now law in California.  It is one of the 890 new laws signed by Governor GAvin Newsom.

It is called The No Toxics Tent Act. The law exempts small tents from California 1975 law which required them to be sprayed with fire retardant.

The Green Science Policy Institute says tents are now made with synthetic materials that are not as prone to catching fire as old canvas tents.

So, the State won’t require manufacturers to use fire retardant.

The law applies to tents built to hold under 15 people and for use by children.

The Green Policy Institute says fire retardant chemicals cause health problems for people and the toxicity problems in the environment.
