Deputy Killed In Ambush In Yucca Valley

A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy has been killed in a high-speed chase and shootout with a motorcycle rider in Yucca Valley. 

Deputies tried to pull over the motorcyclist Monday afternoon May 31st 2021, because he did not have license plates on his motorcycle. The motorcyclist sped away.

Deputies eventually found the motorcycle abandoned, near Sunnyslope and Dumosa and as they approached it, the suspect was hiding nearby and opened fire.

43 year old Deputy Dominic Vaca  was shot and wounded, and  was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.

Deputy Vaca was a 17-year veteran of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. 

The suspect was killed in the gunfight with deputies.
