The CDC is out with a new eviction moratorium that expires on October 3rd 2021 as the Delta variant of coronavirus spreads across the country.
Congress and the White House have taken no action to help renters facing eviction after the previous moratorium expired on July 31st 2021. The aim is to get states to set policy and spend 49 billion federal tax dollars earmarked for Covid-19 relief.
The new order applies to counties experiencing high levels of community transmission of the Delta variant.
CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky says the new moratorium will allow more time “for rent relief to reach renters and to further increase vaccination rates.”
