Cathedral City Man Killed In Early Morning Crash On Varner Road

A crash involving 2 vehicles on Varner Road at 38th Avenue,  just east of Acrisure Arena has killed one person.

The CHP was called to the scene around 8 in the morning Tuesday September 24th 2024.

A white Lexus sedan was heading eastbound on Varner Road, and a white  Ford pick-up truck hauling a utility trailer was heading westbound.

For unknown reasons, the driver of the Lexus veered to the right onto the dirt shoulder and lost control. The Lexus overcorrected to the left, crossed into the westbound lane where it crashed into the pickup truck and trailer.

18 year old Andrew Castellanos from Cathedral City  was driving the Lexus.

He was pronounced dead at  the scene. 

Two men were in the pickup truck, and both sustained moderate injuries.
