Catfish Getting Ready For Busy Summer At Lake Cahuilla In La Quinta

In 1974 the Doobie Brothers sang about ‘Ol’ Mississippi and the catfish are jumping’.

Well this is not Mississippi,  and the catfish might not be jumping, but at least lakes in Riverside County will have catfish.

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors has  approved a contract with Pacific Aqua Farms, to stock catfish at  Lake Cahuilla in La Quinta, as well as  Lake Skinner and Rancho Jurupa regional parks, all summer long.

The first stock of the season will take place Friday May 26th  with 900 pounds of catfish to be delivered to each lake.

Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park is located at 58-075 Jefferson Street in  La Quinta. The admission fee for fishing is $10 per adult and $8 per child.

A state fishing license is required for anyone 16 and older. The state fishing license is not sold at Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park, but can be purchased at local retailers.

Riverside County offers veterans and military free admission and fishing at Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park annually on Memorial Day weekend (Saturday through Monday) and Veterans Day (November 11). The offer is open to active duty military personnel, veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, National Guard and federal and state reservists, and those in their vehicle. Memorial Day weekend is Saturday, May 27 through Monday, May 29.
