Carjack Suspects Wait For Word On Trial; Prelim Hearing Delayed Until September 10th 2021

Two criminal street gang members from La Quinta will find out if they have to stand trial for using guns during a carjacking and robbery in Thermal.

 

But they will have to wait until September 10th 2021.

 

The crime took place on Martinez Road on December 9th 2020.

 

An Indio judge has delayed the preliminary hearing for 27 year old Jose Luis Martinez and 44 year old David Luis Baker.

 

On September 10th 2021, the judge will determine if there is enough evidence to bring the men to trial for the crime.

 

Both men are still in jail,  Martinez held on a quarter of a million dollars bail, and Baker held on 1 million dollars bail.

 

Both are documented criminal street gang members with felony convictions. Baker’s convictions include assault with a gun and willful child cruelty, while Martinez’ criminal resume’ includes burglary and battery causing serious bodily injury.
