Calling George Orwell…California Looking To Monitor Your Car & Notify You If You Are Driving Above The Speed Limit
A bill is now on the desk of California Governor Gavin Newsom as the California Legislature looks to stick its nose further into your daily personal activities.
Republicans in the California Senate have asked Newsom to veto the bill.
It is Senate Bill 961. State Senator Scott Wiener is the author.
If it becomes law, the bill would mandate all cars in California be equipped with speed monitors to keep track of how fast you are driving.
Every time you are driving 10 miles per hour faster than the speed limit, the monitor would give you a visual and audio alarm that would keep distracting you as you drive, until you slow down too the speed limit.
When Senator Wiener wrote the bill, it also proposed that cars come equipped with special equipment that would automatically slow your car down to the speed limit, without you doing anything.
But that automatic speed reduction mandate has been removed from the legislation.
Governor Gavin Newsom has until September 30th 2024 to veto the bill or it automatically becomes law.
