The Azusa Police Department has been hit with  a ransomware attack and the hackers have leaked highly sensitive files online.

The Department say  they were hacked in March 2021, but decided not to announce it until now.

Azusa Police are working with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI.

An international hacking syndicate “DoppelPaymer” gained access to the Azusa Police Department’s computer data, and demanded money, but the department refused to pay.

The hackers then published hundreds of criminal case files and confidential payroll data online.

It is still not clear how the hackers infiltrated the police department’s computers.
