Riverside County Chief Executive Officer George Johnson is retiring in December 2020, becoming the second CEO in the County to retire in the past 3 years.
He has told the Board of Supervisors he is ready to begin the next chapter of his life.
Johnson has only been on the job as CEO since the middle of 2017, replacing Jay Orr, who retired from the job.
Johnson spent 30 years working for Riverside County, in various positions including Chief Financial Officer.
Johnson’s retirement will add yet another expensive retirement package to the county’s growing unfunded pension liability.
His departure comes as the County grapples with revenue shortfalls following its closure of much of the private sector for 7 months in an effort to reduce the spread of Covid-19.
