Ten thousand people who were volunteering at the  Summer Olympics in Tokyo Japan, have decided to bail out.

This as a fourth wave of Covid-19 hits Tokyo.

The Olympic Organizing Committee in Tokyo says the ten-thousand people make up roughly one-eighth of the total  number of registered volunteers  who were  supposed to be supporting staffers at athletic events.

Volunteers typically help facilities and venue operations, as well as assist spectators and athletes.

Chief executive Toshiro Muto says he does not believe the withdrawals will impact the operation of the Games, which were postponed last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo are set to begin on July 23rd  and run through August 8th.
