A person accused of driving a sport utility vehicle that crashed and killed six illegal immigrants is in federal custody. A spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says the crash happened Friday night in Westmorland, about 125 miles east of San Diego. Survivors include a 12-year-old girl whose mother, father and younger brother died in the wreck. The alleged driver from Mexico was arrested Sunday on suspicion of smuggling at a hotel in nearby Brawley. He claims to be a juvenile.
