Nearly a million California children are overweight or obese. Nationwide it's estimated that more than 23-Million children and teens fall into that same category. The first-ever National Childhood Obesity Awareness month kicked off Wednesday. Dr. Sarah Hampl with Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics says she can't stress enough that children need balanced meals as well as regular physical activity. But a child can't do it alone. A new study from the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, finds obesity and diabetes have increased significantly in just six years, despite the fact California offers plenty of outdoor activities and a robust agricultural industry.
