Organizers say Palm Springs Modernism Week 2010 nearly doubled last year’s attendance. Fashion week Chairman Jacques Caussin says attendance came in at 16-Thousand-400 for the ten-day event held in February, up from Nine-Thousand-300 in 2009. Organizers estimate this year’s festival of all things retro had an economic impact of Four-Point-9-Million-Dollars, with modernist enthusiasts spending at local hotels, shops and restaurants. Many Palm Springs boutiques like the uptown furnishings boutique Modernway say they’ve grown to depend on Modernism week to help boost sales. The 2010 festival – the 5th annual - more than doubled its slate of events, expanding beyond architectural design to help attract a more mainstream audience.
