The city of Indian Wells will receive a $715,000 low-interest loan from the state to install solar panels and improve energy efficiency at its civic center. The California Energy Commission approved the loan of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds, which will be used to install seven photovoltaic systems at the Civic Center complex. The city will be able to repay the loan over 13 years, based off the energy savings the solar panels will generate. Four of the solar panels will be placed on rooftops at the complex, while the other two will be installed at carports. The final unit will be put on the ground. The total cost of the project is around $1.7 Million Dollars. The city expects to receive a $607,000 rebate from the California Solar Initiative, and will provide the remaining $389,000 from its coffers.
