Mayor Steve Pougnet will address Palm Springs' economic woes, new development, and sustainability programs in a speech Tuesday
at the Convention Center. Pougnet's 12:30 p.m. speech comes at a time when the city is facing a tough economic climate resulting in lagging revenues from sales and property taxes. Pougnet is expected to talk about a recently approved economic development program that aims to provide matching grants of up to 150-Thousand-Dollars for hotel marketing, and up to 200-Thousand-Dollars to supplement tourism marketing efforts. The city also plans to offer a commercial lease incentive program to help downtown merchants better advertise their businesses, and an airline incentive program to bring more flights to Palm Springs International Airport.
