Boys and Girls Clubs across the Coachella Valley are showing their support for U.S. military servicemen and women overseas by sending care packages. The clubs plan to send 1,200 care packages to those serving in Afghanistan. Each of the six Coachella Valley clubs will collect items for 200 packages. Quinton Egson, chief professional officer with the Boys and Girls Club of the Coachella Valley said about 12 youths from La Quinta, India and Coachella clubs have parents in the military and are receiving scholarships. Officials say it’s important that the kids understand the sacrifice the servicemen and woman are making – missing their families and being away from home. The effort will wrap up with “Salute to the Military” events on September 11th at Boys and Girls Clubs in the desert cities.
